The Sundial has a fabulous location right on one of the main squares. It’s very close to both the chairlifts as well as many of the other Whistler attractions (activities, food, shopping, etc.)
We stayed in a two bedroom, and while the bedrooms were a bit small there was ample space in the living area. The view was amazing and they’ve done a nice job furnishing the rooms.
Rooms service was completed daily and was done extremely efficiently. We’d be back by noon from an activity and the room would already be made up.
I hate to give the Sundial a 3* rating because I imagine we had a few things go wrong that don’t normally happen but when you’re paying between 400-500 CDN/night you expect the best.
The hot tub, which is a big selling point when you have kids, was blazing hot. The adults in our group didn’t even want to go in it so we instead used the facilities at the Mountainside Lodge across the street. To advertise a rooftop hot tub but then make it so that one turns into a lobster isn’t exactly what we were shooting for. Another couple we ran into in the elevator confirmed that we weren’t crazy in this assertion, as they also wondered why it was so hot.
The wireless was really spotty and on one of our days didn’t work at all. That’s ok for a Motel 6, but not here.
The friends we were traveling with left a day before we did. At check-out, they waited for 15 minutes while a trainee stood there and did nothing, and the one person who was authorized to check them out held a phone up to her ear and did mostly listening and not much talking. Not sure what was going on there but that’s not acceptable. If you can’t attend to us let us know and we can get on our way and come back but to leave us hanging is weak.
The Sundial is in a great spot and has the potential to be excellent but they can’t sit on their laurels and assume all is well when they have some rough edges to smooth out. I’d definitely recommend staying here if they clean up a few of these flaws.
We still thoroughly enjoyed our time as Whistler is a fantastic place!
