We stayed at Nita Lake for a week long skiing break. Our room was a one bedroom suite with a non-lake view. First piece of advice would be to pay the extra for a lake view room as whilst you do get a mountain view, primarily it is a residential view. The room however was lovely. A genuine first rate standard which was great to come back to after a day’s skiing. It has a spacious seating area as well as a hall type area which contains a wardrobe as well as a very small kitchen type set up. This includes a sink, small fridge, basic utensils and kettle/toaster/microwave/cafetière. This proves really handy for some basic breakfasts and drinks, although it is not sufficient to consider anything more. The bathroom was stunning however and includes heated natural stone floor, a large shower enclosure, a very large bath and a separate toilet. Definitely the highlight of the room. The bedroom is a good size, but a point of note is that it is not actually a separate bedroom and is a walk through from the lounge area. The bed was really comfy, but it is low for those that consider those issues. All the rooms have a spacious balcony area with table and chairs.
Wifi comes included free of charge, but it is somewhat intermittent and the speeds will not allow any sort of streaming and face timing etc was a bit hit and miss. There are a couple of cupboards for clothes but there are no drawers in the room which is a bit of a downside.
There is also lots of literature in the room about the local area, what to do and where to eat etc.
The only downside to the room during our stay was the standard of the daily housekeeping. Quite often the hoovering wasn’t done and the bathroom sink and countertops were not cleaned. A minor issue granted and whilst it did not affect our stay in anyway I would expect better from a hotel of this standard.
With regards to other facilities there is a casual bar area downstairs which serves a limited range of food and snacks. The staff are always very helpful and friendly and a nice place for a drink. There is a large tv in the barwhich also shows sports etc. Aura, the hotel restaurant is also next to the bar. We didn’t eat in here other than a bit of breakfast so can’t comment on the evening food. It’s nice inside however and not pretentious or over priced. There is a cafe on site called fix and this serves sandwiches and snacks until around 4.30 pm. It’s a good size and gives a good option for lunch and a quick breakfast.
There are a couple of outdoor hot tubs and robes provided in the rooms to venture down. There is a spa onsite with a good range of treatments at a reasonable price. Nice spa with a lovely lounge to relax in before or after treatments. Definitely recommend the Swedish massage!
The biggest negative for me during the stay was the hotel gym. Whilst the description does say that it is shared with a local fitness company I was surprised at the quality of the gym in comparison to the rest of the hotel and other hotels of a similar standard. It is small and the quality of the equipment is really poor and old. I tried to use the gym twice and on both occasions there was a trainer in there doing some sort of class for three people. Given the size of the place this meant that I couldn’t get on the majority of things and was limited to a small area of the gym. On both occasions I walked out after a short amount of time.
There are laundry facilities down on the car park level with both washers and dryers. A wash is 2.50 and dryer 2 dollars. It takes dollar coins and quarters only and sells detergent too at reception. Car parking is underground at the hotel.
From a skiing perspective Nita lake is a good ten minute walk to creek side where the gondola is located. However, on the hour and every half hour the hotel put a minibus service on that drops u at creek side and a couple of minutes from the gondola. The hotel also provide you with a ski locker in a secure room at creek side so there is no need to lug your skis and boots back to the hotel daily. You can also purchase lift passes etc at creek side. Skis are not allowed in the room but the hotel do provide a storage area downstairs near to reception for this.
Creekside has a small centre which contains a good sized supermarket, ski shop including rentals and other little shops, bank etc. creekbread restaurant is also well worth a visit for a good value pizza.
The minibus mentioned continues from creek side up to whistler village and then back again in a loop. It does drop at blackcomb too during the daytime. Of an evening it will also drop at the rim rock cafe, which is a nice restaurant just up the road from creekside. The bus is always punctual and the drivers friendly. It provides a really convenient aspect to the hotel being that little bit further out.
The setting of Nita lake is stunning, particularly out the back of the hotel and we found it absolutely lovely being able to return here after a days skiing or a trip to whistler village area which is about 10 minute drive away. It is incredibly peaceful and a lovely hotel to relax in. There were a few little bits and pieces as I’ve mentioned that could be improved upon but overall we loved the location being a Little outside whistler village and would definitely return here and recommend it to others.
